Good news for the health- or weight-conscious business travelers. Soon enough there is no need to eat like a rabbit just because your choice is only between fat and several pieces of leaves.
Some hotels -- like Wyndham, Holiday Inn and Hilton, among others -- have adjusted their menus to include a healthier fare.
Others, however, have gone all the way...
Sheraton, Westin and W brand of hotels which are all under Starwood, will eliminate all trans fats from foods in all of its 400+ hotels in North America and the Caribbean.
Marriott, Loews, Hampton, Red Lion and Carlson are doing the same in most of food served in their hotels.
For the uninformed, trans fat -- which could be monounsaturated or polyunsaturated -- is the common name for unsaturated fat with trans isomer fatty acids. Unfortunately, they are found in all packaged foods. They can increase the risk of coronary heart disease. For more info on trans fat, read this.
It's a great development especially since most of us are sometimes left with no other choice but to dine in in-house restaurants. To have healthier choices in the menu is a great step for hotels to continuously think of ways to keep their customers happy.
