Do you have a good working relationship with your female colleagues in Japan or Korea?
Does your work dictate that you spend Valentine's Day (February 14 for those who may have forgotten) working in Japan or Korea?
If "yes" is your answer to both questions, you may want to keep in mind that, in Japan and Korea, women (not the men, as our commercial culture tells us) are the ones who give men gifts for Valentine's day. This tradition, however, is not limited to men who they are romantically involved with. Women in Korea and Japan can also give obligatory chocolates (Giri Choco in Japanese) to the people they work with or have close platonic relationship with.
If you are a man, do remember that lest you embarass yourself and misunderstand the meaning of being given chocolates by your female Japanese or Korean colleague.
If you are a woman, it might be a good idea to bring small cartons of chocolates to give as presents during Valentine's day.
