Starting today, some of us need not take off our shoes in order to get through security. Shoes can now be scanned without taking them off and putting them through x-ray machines. With ShoeScanners, all we need to do is stand on a platform for 20-25 seconds, just the right amount of time for the machine to check if there are explosives inside by "shoot(ing) radio waves at footwear to provide a molecular peek inside".
Unfortunately, not all of us would be able to get this inconvenient process out of the way. The use of ShoeScanners is only possible if...
- you pay an annual fee ($100/year) and pass the security test for the Registered Traveler program
- you fly out of Orlando International Airport

I don't understand the appeal of this system. 20-25 to check your shoes? I can take off my shoes and put them on the belt of the x-ray machine a lot quicker than that.
