Gale force winds wreaked havoc in Europe last Thursday. The UK and Germany were the hardest hit.
Deaths were reported in the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Belgium and France.
Apart from destroying structures and uprooting trees, Kyrill also caused trucks to topple in highways, train travel in Germany and the Netherlands were cancelled and several flights delayed or cancelled.
The cancellation or delay of train and air travel in the UK and Germany stranded many travelers -- both leisure and business.
Deutsche Bahn and EuroStar travelers were stuck with no immediate news of when they will be able to board the next train.
Airports in London, Frankfurt, Munich, Amsterdam and Vienna reported delays and cancellations.
In Frankfurt (my current home base), Lufthansa cancelled every second flight in order to give bigger gaps between take-off and landing. God knows how they chose which flights got to go and which were cancelled. I was one of the lucky few whose flights came in Frankfurt (around 8pm from Helsinki) on time.
What about YOU? Were you lucky enough not to be traveling when Kyrill battered Europe? Or were you back home in the US struggling against icy weather?
