Airlines in India will soon be able to offer comprehensive insurance coverage to domestic passengers in 2007. For 180 Rupees, travelers can be insured against personal accidents during the entire trip (including the time when you are on your way to the airport), emergency hospitalisation, loss of baggage, flight delays and cancellations.
According to a senior insurance company executive, one of the compensations being considered is paying a fixed lump-sum package to passengers for the first 4-5 hour delay due to bad weather. To date, the complete terms and conditions are still being discussed.
Low cost carriers which are currently discussing with travel insurance companies are SpiceJet, Air Deccan and Go Air.
