
Here's yet another "Did you know that..." kind of post.
Are you aware that when you enter the US from abroad, customs officials are actually authorized (that is, if they deem it necessary) to confiscate and/or check the contents of your laptops? And they do not even have to give you a reason if and when they do.
Imagine if you were one of those singled out? What will you do? What about your meeting? What about all those data inside your computer which you need?
The 'what ifs' could be endless.
Personally, I wouldn't mind if they would go through my data as I do not think I have anything in my drive which would interest them or which would implicate me for anything. What I would mind, though, is that I would not have my data with me.
So the next time I would have to cross the US borders again, I will make sure that I...
- have a back-up of all my data at home
- have a back-up of my presentation/work data which I need for immediate use (usb stick and/or email copy to self)
