Here are WAYS TO MAKE BUSINESS TRAVEL EASIER FOR YOUR FAMILY:
- Give them an idea of where you might be and what you will be doing. Show them a map, a picture or even the website of where you will be going. Explain that you have to work. That way, it would be easier for them to imagine what you are doing whenever they are missing you.
- If you have a fax machine at home, give them your number at the hotel so they can, say, send a drawing to tell you that they miss you. Believe me, they'd be looking forward to sending Dad or Mom a fax.
- Call them before they head for bed and give them a far-away goodnight kiss.
- Set-up VoIP at home so you can chat with them longer.
Bring them presents upon your return. In my case, I always make sure that my gift is something that he likes and is related to where I have been to. Like when I went to London, I gave my son a mini double-decker bus: (a) He loves modes of transportations; (b) I was able to explain to him that this is a special type of transportation in London. That way, he gets something that he can enjoy, he learns and may even look forward to future trips and what it may bring. At least, I hope so. - Should you be gone for a long time, try to arrange for the whole family to join you during the weekend. IMHO, that is what mileages are for.
