"What I actually hate is traveling for work, which is where I’ve been. I cannot think of any worse punishment than having to stay in a hotel where coworkers will also be, and then acting like I’m superstoked to just run into them in the hotel lobby at 11 at night and 7 in the morning when I want to be BY MYSELF.
NO, I DO NOT WANT TO JOIN YOU FOR A DRINK IN THAT PERSON’S ROOM.
NO, THANKS, I’D PREFER TO EAT DINNER BY MYSELF.
NO, I CAN GET MY COFFEE SOLO THIS MORNING. NO, I’M NOT COMING TO THE NETWORKING BREAKFAST. NO, I DON’T NEED YOUR HELP. I CAN DO IT MYSELF. AND ALONE."
Personally, I do not hate traveling for business. BUT there are several things that I have to deal with during business travel that I DO HATE.
And just like Emily, I do hate it when, after spending a nerve-wracking day doing presentations, I HAVE TO spend time with a colleague. Dinner or drinks at the bar are fine but there sure are days when I would rather stay in my hotel room and relax.
BUT, every single time, I drag myself to dinner or drinks. The only time I excused myself was back in 2002. I was traveling with my Boss and was supposed to have dinner with him and with the Managing Director of our biggest client in London. I had the best excuse... was sick and pregnant.
What about YOU? What do you hate about traveling for work?

I need privacy in the morning, there is nothing worse than being forced to exchange meaningless babble before you are ready.
