Interested in learning more about the locals? Unfortunately, you may not get very far in your research on how to do business with the Kazakhs. Not much has been written about the culture of the Kazakhs. Instead, they have been getting a lot of negative international publicity, thanks to Borat.
Sacha Baron Cohen, a British comedian, is famously known as Ali G on TV. Another character that he developed is BORAT, a bumbling Kazakh TV presenter. He portrayed Kazakhstan as "disgusting, squalid and impoverished, a Third World finishing school for vagrant prostitutes and idiot interviewers." His skits about Kazakhstan has infuriated Kazakhs and this has resulted in a media blitz (newspaper ads and tv spots of Kazakhstan) to properly represent the country.
Should you be leaving for Kazakhstan soon, keep in mind that Borat's Kazakhstan is NOT the real Kazakhstan. If you didn't get very far about your research on how to do business with the locals, the best that you can do is to act neutral and observe.
