What Would I Have Done If I Had to Travel?

One day, we all woke up with the news of a terrorist threat. This has resulted in changes on our traveling habits. Days after which, we have been waking up to even more changes, leaving us confused (at least, I have been) as to what we can really bring with us, should we have a trip scheduled.

It’s not a matter of getting there ahead of time but of what we would be allowed to bring.

businesswoman.jpgLucky me, I had nothing scheduled when all that came up.  If I had, what would I have done?

Well, since I have already established that the changes in restrictions confuse the hell out of me, I would probably finalize packing only on the morning of my departure.

I will pack what I really need and what has never been listed on the prohibited items list.

Those that were previously listed on the prohibited items list will be laid out on the kitchen table for final approval the next morning.  Carry-on bag options (see through plastic? allowable-sized bag?) will be placed beside these items.

Upon waking up, will check TSA site for the update on what I can bring.  After which, I will finalize packing my check-in and carry-on bags.

Banned liquid or gel items will be replaced with alternatives. If not available, I’ll probably just have to shop when I get to where I need to go or call my hotel ahead of time to check what they can do for me.

Banned electronics?  There is no way in this world that I will ever consider to check in my laptop. If and when I will not be allowed to carry it with me, I will leave mine home, have my files backed-up on a USB stick and online and get myself a laptop when I get to my destination.

If it is just way too inconvenient and I truly need to get to a meeting, I’d probably try to get a booking at an all-business airline like EOS or MaxJet or, if permitted, book a private jet.

Of course, these are all theoretical.  I am sure it will not work 100%. But, despite the inconveniences the present situation may bring us, it is good to know that we still do have options.  Rather than whine (which I did in the beginning) and start any doomsday travel speeches, I’d rather think of what I can do as an alternative.

What about YOU?! What would you have done?!
