Working from Home

After coming home from a long (or mulit-destination) business trip, I always try to reward myself (and my family) in the form of working temporarily from home.  Of course, the success rate of getting an arrangement like this approved depends on the status of the project upon my return.

When I work from home, I try to be flexible and, at the same time, strict with my self.  Seems contradictory but that is how it should work, at least in my case.  Flexibility is in the sense of when I take my breaks.  Keeping in mind that apart from finishing my work deadline, I also need to be there for my kids.  Otherwise, there would be no point in working from home.  I also try to be strict with what needs to be done each day.

temp_workarea.jpgMy little office set-up at home, at the moment, looks a lot like how it is whenever I am in transit.  I have the same basic gadgets set-up.  We are in the process (as you can see from the hammer, screw drivers and meter stick on the window sill) of expanding this little office to improve productivity when working from home and perhaps, to make it possible for me to arrange this set-up more often.

Of course, another option for me would be to completely take some days off from work to be with my family again after a trip.  But, when that doesn't work, I do have several options to make sure that work-life balance is achieved.

What about YOU? What do you do after being gone on a business trip for a long time?
