Ironically, valuable things DO get lost when going through security checkpoints.
There are lots of stories about valuables going missing even if the owner's eyes were only diverted away for a second. That's why we should always keep an eye on our valuables which we need to put on that plastic tray that goes with the conveyor belt.
Frequent fliers have different strategies on how to ensure that nothing gets lost during the screening.
Suzie's MyGyver-like LifeHacker tip is so simple and ingenious, you'd wonder why you never thought of doing the same before:
"More and more people dump their pockets' contents into Ziploc bags before they get to the security checkpoint at our local airport, so all they have to do is kick off their shoes and go through the metal detector. Even though there are bowls available to dump stuff in, it makes it much easier when you have a watch, cell phone, keychain(s), small change, money clip, Hipster PDA, etc all in one convenient see-through pouch to pick up at the end of the conveyor belt. It also keeps the people around you honest. I'm not sure if it helps the screeners or not, but I know it quickens the time it takes to divest everything and get dressed again at the end of the process."
