In British English, verbs that end in a vowel plus l double the l when adding endings that begin with a vowel. So travel = traveller. In American English, the l is not doubled. Hence, it should be traveler.
I admit, I have not been consistent with my spelling. As dictated by my education, I should use the american english spelling. However, more often than not, I have found myself using the British English version.
I checked the Keyword Selector Tool (for SEO purposes) and found that traveler has been used in searches a lot more often than traveller.
So... that means one thing. From now on, I would be using Traveler... with one L.
