Petite Anglaise got dooced. She was fired by the French company she works for because of her blog.
Apart from Catherine (aka Petite Anglaise), there were already a handful who got dooced because of blogging. Here is a list.
As for me... well, even the president has visited my personal blog. He has even left a comment. Most of the people I work with also knows where I can be found in the world wide web. And believe me, I have also ranted on my blog about work. Despite not having mentioned any names, my descriptions were obvious that people in our office would know exactly who I would be referring to. To think that I have been blogging ever since I started working for the company I currently work for, I have yet to get into trouble. YET...
My blog rules that relate to my company are:
- I do not blog at work.
- I do not name names.
- I am very transparent about how I feel about certain things at work. If I rant about it online, it means that I have also made my thoughts clear to my bosses.
On the other hand, it seems like some of the dooced bloggers had the same rules. Yet, they still got fired. Maybe, it all depends on the sensitivities of the people in your company who read your blog. Maybe...
Anyway, should you not want to go Petite Anglaise's way, here's a guideline from Blogger on How Not to Get Fired Because of Your Blog.
