Business Traveller Richard Quest made a mistake of misplacing his passport. A mistake which he thought an experienced business traveller like him would never commit. It was, for him, a humbling experience. Luckily, the passport was recovered later; it saved him the incovenience of getting a replacement.
See, even after accummulating 200K miles, you can still make the simplest of mistakes.
Should you be one of those who may later make the, horror of horrors, mistake of losing your passport -- whether misplaced or stolen -- here are the things which you need to keep in mind:
To ensure that the replacement process is fast, make sure that you always have copies of your passport with you. As an additional precaution (something which I always do), you can scan all your important documents and mail yourself a copy. That way, you always have a copy which you can easily retrieve from anywhere.
Keep it safe. Don't just put it in your breast pocket. You may be able to reach for it easily at all times but, so will someone else.
To get a replacement, contact your nearest embassy and have the copies ready for easy retrieval of your records.
