There are days when I would run late and rush to the airport to make sure that I do not miss my flight. I do make it. Only to find out a few minutes later that my flight is actually delayed... one of the ironies of my life as a business traveller.
When faced with a delayed flight, I make sure that the people who may be waiting for me are immediately informed. So, I busy myself with making phone calls for the next 15 minutes. After which, I spend my time working (only if needed) or I catch up on my reading.
There were a few times wherein my delayed flight did cost the company as schedules (especially when there is a time difference to consider) are all put out of place and I was faced with having to extend my trip... which means $$$, of course.
Great news for the next flight.... An interesting new site by the National Air Traffic Controllers Association is coming our way, to help us not only avoid delays but also to "make informed decisions about their flight plans, based on both historical and live flight data." Aptly named Avoid Delays, it's a site where we can find answers and which could help us make educated guesses.
What can you see on AvoidDelays.com? Listing of...
- the most delayed departure airports
- worst times to fly into delayed airports
- the most delayed flights
You will also find information on why flights are delayed, what makes them worse and what could be done to avoid them.
It's already on my favorites. What about YOU?
