In-Flight Magazines

Even if I have work to do or have my own reading material in my carry-all, I always leaf through the in-flight magazine as soon as I have my seat buckled on-board a plane.  No, I do not read most of them from cover to cover the way a lot of us do with newspapers. Instead, like a child, I look at the colored photographs, the shopping guides and a few interesting articles about a certain destination which might be useful in the future.

I have seen a lot of travellers do the same. Well, with time in our hands, it is not a wonder that a lot of us find ourselves reaching for that glossy in front of our seat pockets.

I am not surprised that a recent research shows how lucrative inflight magazines could be for advertisers due to its audience.

"They get a lot of business travelers who are flying all the time. The reality for advertisers is that they get to get in front of people with real disposable incomes, much more so than other magazines," according to Nat Ives

Apart from the new advertisments which may be coming soon, what do we, business travellers, get out of this?!  Hmmm...

Great post Melissa... I've always loved the Inflight mags so I hope they keep the ads down to give us a few stories. Actually you just gave me an idea... I'll be back.... and thanks!

I do read the infight mags once in a while but, I do wish there was more content than ads and such. After all, like you said, we have PLENTY of time to read it all.

Never really bought anything from those magazines though. They seem so...overpriced. At least from those catalogs. I do have some disposable income but not THAT much :) Does anyone really go "hm..I need that $200 super mosquito catcher!" while flying the redeye?? :)

As a frequent flyer I am always dissapointed that the magazines offfer no short stories to pass the time. Often If I forget my book or finish it a short story to fill in the passing minutes would be welcome.
