Months before the World Cup kicked off, Standard & Poor, one of the world's preeminent providers of credit ratings, looked at the likely impact of the World Cup 2006 on Business Travel.
In terms of business travel, Germany tops the European league. The World Cup is expected to enhance this trend. Accordingly, the hotel and catering industry expects additional earnings of about €500 million from the World Cup alone -- not including ancillary business opportunities generated through city travel and short-term trips. Only time will tell, however, if this upward trend can be transformed into sustainable growth for the fragmented German hotel and catering sector.

Kerstin Riedel of Grand Hyatt hotel, on the other hand, do not see any considerable rise in bookings due to the World Cup. Instead, as reported on VOA News, they are expecting that the World Cup's impact to be felt later. Future gains are counted on as a result of the exposure of Germany via the World Cup.
Above expectations can be counted on IF the Invest in Germany initiative works. We'll see.
