Business travellers who are in Germany during the World Cup need not worry about activities one can indulge in during downtime. Believe me, I have never seen the country (and the people, come to think of it) more alive than it has ever been until the World Cup 2006 games started.
When that meeting has ended for the day, you can...
- (assumming that you were not able to score some WM2006 tickets) head to the public viewing places and watch the games with all the locals and the tourists. Even for non-football fans, you will still enjoy the experience.
- head to the local bar/restaurant. Chances are, you'd find the locals friendlier (due to the World Cup and the weather)
- go to the mall even if its late. Again, because of the World Cup, malls are open until 10pm on weekdays and are open from 2-8pm on Sundays.
Whatever you decide to do during your down time, you'd find yourself soaking up the atmosphere. Like one of my German colleagues said to me the other day, "everyone's happy and friendly! I do not recognize the Germans anymore!!!".
