In cooperation with American Express, American Airlines is now allowing passengers to charge their on-board purchases -- such as food -- using their credit or debit cards.
This payment option started last Monday and is scheduled to expand to ALL US and international flights by June.
This is actually news to me. Since I have yet to purchase anything while onboard domestic US flights. The only purchases I have made were from the duty-free trollies whenever I travel internationally and I have always assumed that ALL airlines accept credit cards.
