I forgot to mention another travel nightmare that I have... the loss of my wallet or credit cards -- whether stolen or forgotten somewhere. The fear is mainly because of how inconvenient it would be if that happens and I would be stuck somewhere with only a few stray coins between me and poverty.
Theoretically, if I lose my wallet, I would have to:
- Figure out how to get someone from home or the office to get money to me.
- Call my bank and the credit card companies to inform them of the loss
- Call my bank, credit card companies and all the other company where I have membership benefits and ask for replacement cards.
- Report to the police, if required by the country I am visiting.
Too inconvenient!
Fortunately, I wouldn't have to worry about paying thousands of $$$ for unauthorized charges since I will only be liable to $50 per card. That is, if I do report the loss or theft immediately.
What about you? Have you lost anything during a business trip lately? Do you know your rights if your atm, credit or debit cards are stolen?
