As inconvenient as delayed or cancelled flights may be, they still do not count as my travel nightmares. Why? Because those are problems which are caused by situations beyond my control.
I am more afraid of situations wherein problems are caused by something which I could have prevented or done something about. Like...
Failure to respond to my wake-up call. If you agree to meet at a certain time, you have to be there. Not even jetlag and/or confusion with the time difference could be used as an excuse, imho.
My solution: Not only do I use the hotel wake-up call (TV or phone activated) but I also bring my travel alarm clock AND use my mobile phone's alarm option. Although, I guess, I also must have woken up the guests next door.
Forgetting an important file. This just screams unprepared and unprofessional.
My solution: Apart from the hard copies that I have, I make back-ups on my laptop AND I have a web-based email where I mail the details to myself.
Advances from colleagues or strangers. A scary situation, especially to female business travellers.
My solution: Wear conservative suits, go easy on the make-up, no perfume, wear wedding ring and avoid being too friendly.
However, if you look at what happened to this guy, you'd definitely think I am worrying over nothing.
What about YOU? What is your travel nightmare?
