The Road Gladiator Checking In

Architecture may have been my initial vocation but I have earned my PhD in packing light and choosing the best hotels through years of practice.

I am Melissa Petri, an expatriate in Germany; and count the US, HongKong, China and Korea in my adoptive land list. Now that I have grown roots (to last for, at least, a couple more years) in Frankfurt , I have yet to give up my semi-nomadic life as I continue to traipse around the world for business and leisure.

Reading Road Gladiator would be like attending a powwow on everything related to business travel.  Watch for a variety of articles - from Airline and Hotel Loyalty Programs to reviews of the Suite Life, Myths about Business Travel, coping with the daily grind (family, jetlag, etc.), cutting costs and Business Culture.

And whenever possible, using the mileage I have accrued, I let my family tag along and plan a mini-vacation to end a business trip.  You know what they say, "all work and no play makes Jill a dull girl". I'd share those "secrets" with you, as well.

Join me as I tote my laptop and trolley around on my next business travel.

Tim: definitely :-) You can even expect tips on how to get that sought after upgrade to business class.

Thanks, Easton. Glad to be part of a network like no other. It's an interesting team with topics that are equally interesting and which, I think, would definitely cater to certain niche.

I look forward to sharing my knowledge and experiences with all of you inasmuch as I look forward to learning from all the other wonderful bloggers here.

Hi Melissa!

Just dropping by to welcome you to the KMM family. I love it here and I'm sure you will too :) Looking forward to hearing some great and not-so-great customer service travel stories. I'm sure you have plenty of them!

Hey, Maria!

Thanks for the warm welcome. I am loving it here, already.

Oh yea, horror stories (Lufthansa) and those where I rave about their services (Cathay).

Now that I think about it, I have to agree with you: all work and no play makes Jill a dull girl - hehe... reminds me of kindergarten. thanks for the memories...

I find your ideas fascinating and your decision to turn travel writing into a business to be inspiring. I’m a writer myself and I like to take inspiration wherever I can get it. But I have to ask you, if you’re an architect, why do you want to spend so much of your time writing about travel, airlines, hotels, loyalty programs and all of the other things that go on the travel plate? I find it so strange that an architect could find these sorts of topics interesting and I would love to know your motivation for doing this type of writing. Also, if you don’t mine my asking, which it’s okay if you don’t want to answer, I’m just curious…why are you an expatriate? And of course, why are you still living in Germany if that is the case? It just seems strange and I would love to know the background to your story.

Hey you remind me of my former boss. He is also a traveler. At the end of each trip you’ll see that his notebook or organizer is filled with notes. Most of these notes are about the place he has been to. Information such as cheap gift shops, attractions, weather, and the likes are the usual content of his notes. He is also thinking of making a web site inspired by Lonely Planet book. I hope you two will meet.

Hi Melissa!
Just like you, I also would want to start a travel blog. I love taking pictures of places I’ve been to. My most favorite is taking pictures of native food. But of course, in order to survive in this world of photography and travel blogs, taking pictures is just one of the very basic requirements. I hope you can tell us some of your secrets.

Ahhhh.... you reminded me of our European trip my wife and I had last year. Dubrovnik, Santorini, Paris and Venice were just the highlights. What an experience!!!
