Business or First class tickets, luxurious hotel rooms and dinners which even an epicurean would love… sounds glamorous, eh?
A lot of people stop at the thought of all the extravagance (which is paid by the company, of course) that are available to most business travellers. Many have not acknowledged that this seemingly hedonistic lifestyle comes with a price.
There are airport hassles, impersonal hotel rooms, boring lunches and dinners, the loneliness of being away from home, the long work hours and the reports/briefs that need to be written. And when you get back to the office, you can expect a pile of paper work and hundreds of urgent emails to greet you with a warm welcome. Not counting the "visit" from the big boss who needs to be updated ASAP.
Am I complaining? Well, yes. Although, I would have to admit that there are certain times when I still do welcome the thought of going away again.
Just like everything else in life, travelling on business has its Pros and Cons. And I think it is important to discuss both sides of the story. Each and every one of us would form our own opinion to decide which one will be considered positive or negative. I guess, it all depends on our own personal priorities, goals and familial situation.
Anyway, please note that The Myths of Business Travel will later be discussed in detail. Watch out for it!
