Off you go, thinking that everything has been taken cared of. After all, you do have a confirmed/paid reservation at your chosen hotel.
And when you finally get there, you are told that you do not have a room!
This is a pretty old entry but Hotel Chatter's example is one of the greatest.
"...during a recent trip to Reston I showed up at the Marriott after 11:30PM and was told that there had been a conflict with my reservation. The 'conflict' was that the Marriott did not have an available room for me."
After appealing his case (which includes an itty bitty lie which, imho, isn't that bad), he did agree to transfer to Holiday Inn, despite the fact that it didn't offer one of his main requirements. However, he didn't go with his tail between his legs. He took the $400 Marriot offered as compensation for his inconvenience.
"Make sure that you benefit, not just your company. It's your inconvenience, not theirs."
Guess what? It could be worse. Situations like this does happen.
When arriving early or late, make sure that you do call your hotel. You wouldn't want to find yourself sans hotel room at 2 in the morning, would you? Especially, if you have an important presentation early in the morning.
